The "Lower Falls".
1/4 mile away from Lookout Farm is Trout Creek. a tributary for the Rondout Reservoir which supplies drinking water to New York City.
It's officially NYC property but, with an easily obtained permit, anyone can go there to fish, swim or just hang out.
There are 3 main waterfalls on the creek but this is our favorite. It's a 15 minute hike through the woods and, because the property is so remote, no one ever goes there.
So it's a great place for a picnic in the warmer weather and the site of magnificent vistas, whether the leaves are turning or the waterfall is cascading through icicles.
So that's the neighborhood ... apart from the deer, the birds, the raccoons and a few friendly neighbors.
On the more practical side, the closest market, which carries organic groceries and produce, is 15 minutes away. Restaurants, banking, the post office and even a new Walmart (!) are only a few minutes further.
And the villages of Woodstock, Kingston, New Paltz and Middletown are each under an hour away and offer a variety of diversions and services.
New York City? 2 hours by car or 2 and a half by bus.
That's it.
We love it here.
We're sure you will too.
